Emergency AC Repair in NW OKC: What to Do Right Now
When your AC quits on a hot Oklahoma day, it feels urgent, but a cool head helps. Here are a few safe things to check yourself, and exactly when to hand it to us.
First, check your thermostat
It sounds simple, but start here. Make sure it’s set to “cool” and the temperature is set below the current room temperature. If it runs on batteries, a dead battery can shut everything down, so try fresh ones.
If the screen is blank, batteries or a tripped breaker are the usual suspects.
Next, check your breaker
Head to your electrical panel and look for a tripped breaker labeled for the AC or air handler. If one has flipped to the middle or “off” position, switch it fully off, then back on.
If it trips again right away, stop there and give us a call. A breaker that won’t stay set is telling you something, and it’s not worth forcing.
Then, check your filter
A badly clogged filter chokes airflow and can cause your system to shut down or freeze up. If your filter looks gray and packed with dust, swap it for a fresh one and give the system time to recover.
If it had frozen up, you may need to let it thaw for a few hours with the system off before it runs normally again.
When to stop and call us
If the thermostat, breaker, and filter all check out and you’re still without cool air, that’s your cue to call. Beyond those basics, AC repair involves refrigerant and electrical components that really do need a licensed technician.
